The stand is located on a N - S running ridge along the WV / VA state line. There is a road following the stateline. Adjacent to the plot to the S is a Black Locust woodland w/ Butter and Eggs, and Ailanthus altissima. The plot looks out over the headwaters of Trout Run @ Tibbet Knob.;Somewhat dry forest growing on a gently sloping E facing shoulder slope of a N - S running ridge. Most of the standing dead within this stand has been removed. Possibly a gypsy moth caused oak death and then a subsequent salvage cut occurred. The stumps appear different aged. Maybe they were cut out for fire wood at different times? There are several deer-browsed S2 Quercus in the plot, which had been S1.
Representativeness
Small patch of Oak - Hickory forest. Plot was placed to sample Windy Ridge polygon occuring on Devils Hole Mtn.
